Re: [ATM] ATM Movie
mirror making can be a lonely, humbling, frustrating experience. i know
from experience. i made several "mirrors" (they did have shiny surfaces
and were concave) before i gained the confidence to control the process
versus the process controlling me. i read all the books and can
truthfully say i believe some of the authors had never made a mirror or
had very limited experience or did a poor job of communicating their
knowledge.
total cost in hours, supplies, books, mistakes, etc was not a small sum.
been there and done that - OJT is a great thing to have but it can be
difficult when you are all alone in your basement late at night with
glass, pitch, a foucault tester and a book.
there is a better way to learn mirror making that is faster, a lot more
fun, and in the end probably less expensive in dollars. it will get you
to a premium optic which you can be proud of and will enjoy for the rest
of your life. you can have a telecope that snaps to focus, no soft
focussing allowed...there will be no doubt as to which side of focus you
are when you have properly figured mirror.
the better method is to participate in a group mirror making class.
google can help you locate one near you.

[ATM] ATM Movie
Maryann Ariens, a former president of Stellafane, made a movie about ATM.
I
found it to be a fun video.
