Re: [ATM] SM4

Hi, Marinus, and ATM'ers everywhere.

Sorry, Marinus, but the 'dream' scope of most ATM'ers is the Hubble, even if
it was 'professionally' made, and who wouldn't want the opportunity to visit
their 'dream' scope? And, what true ATM'er wants to see a very useful
telescope fall into disrepair and burn up in the atmosphere, never to be
used again? (When it does eventually fall from orbit, I'm hoping the mirror
makes it down in one piece, unscarred, falls in my backyard, and that NASA
doesn't want it back!!!!)

I'm confused in your values in regards to the Hubble along with an interest
in telescope making and astronomy. I'll bet that somewhere in there is a
desire to know what's out there, including some wonder of what is beyond
what your backyard scope sees?

My understanding (please correct me if I'm wrong!) is that the Hubble is our
best visible light instrument at this point in time, on the basis that it's
outside the effects of atmosphere. Until something better comes along, we
need it!!!

And I'm right there with Richard, Jack, etc. in that another repair mission
is excellent news!

Thanks,
Dave
