I guess that you could make those for example by making cuts with a hacksaw
on opposite sides of the screw, almost meeting eachother at the center.
Repeat the process 1mm along the screw, but at 90deg angle. The result is a
cross-coupling which gives some flexing but keeps axial position.
I think you need to cut pretty accurately, down to half a mm or so,
depending on the type of metal. If my assumptions are correct, I don't see
where you need the lathe...
