"Nobody is perfect", (and nothing is perfect).

Have you measured imperfections? Do you know how many
wavelengths or their parts are curves imperfect.
Newton's ring method enables you to get quantitative measure
of imperfections and know where you are and how to proceed.
Building machine is no way to solve the problem.
If you were so far that flats were ground and polished and
you can have rings than before you build THE MACHINE
perhaps "perfection" is within hands reach. Find it out.
