Alan,
Can you say more about the composite 1/2" plywood? Do you know what it is
made of, and its mechanical properties?
Also, I would echo Mark Holms thoughts on using Appleply or similar for the
cell arms. Solid wood of the same species will be approx twice as stiff as
plywood parallel to the grain, since all of its fibers are in that
direction, not half of them. Aluminum would be better yet, and can be
worked with woodworking power tools pretty easily.
