[ATM] Baker-Schmidt optics
Julio,
I have been watching your inquiry here now for about two weeks, and figured
I should jump in and say something.
There are four different Baker-Schmidt-Cassegrain families that one can
choose from. All four are highly corrected systems that when properly made
will render incredible vistas over a wide image field.
They are however fairly difficult to fabricate requiring a high degree of
optical skill, and mechanical stabilization thus they do not lend
themselves to being mass manufactured ... Therefore, they fall under the
category of highly custom optics ... With that said, they also come with
the rather hefty price tag.
The Baker systems are very closely related to those proposed by E. H.
Linfoot in the '50s and Slevogt in in the early '40s... all of which
present about the same amount of difficulty from the standpoint of the
optician/engineer.
