First off is that the lap will be deformed by this operation as a
lot of it isn't on the mirror.  Thus, if you just hold the lap in
one position in your hands, the lap will have a groove in it that
won't mate to the mirror anymore.  Each stroke of the lap thus
should be so that you present a new surface of the lap to the
mirror.  Rotate the lap if possible (you are used to doing this)
as you push it along and things will be well.  You also need to
ofen reform the lap a bit, either with strokes that will do so or
by pressing the lap, after you have done shuch abuse to a lap.
