You may be running the turntable too fast.  This may be heating
up the lap and causing it to deform more than it should be.  With
3 hours of grinding, you should have a deent amount of polish
already on the glass.  Feel the lap and mirror and I think that
you will find them fairly warm after a session and that is too
hot.  The glass should feel fairly neutral to cool to your hand
after a polishing session.
Don't worry about the thin lap as this will tend to make the lap
move less than a thick lap.  Also, don't worry so much about the
shape of the lap as anything that allows for the CeO slurry to
get away from the polishing surfaces will do just fine.
