Since you're going to support the mirror by the back, you can let
the tube diameter be smaller than the SCT makers do it.
In addition, I'd put a piece of card stock or something else to
cushion the interface.  The mirror retention cna be done with the
end of the tube but I'd rather have that at the edges also to
reduce the stress of the glasss at the center of the girror.
Sounds like you're making a nice camera lens.
