Dark Star is the book and the movie.  Also interesting but
probably not a coincidince is that in the movie, the song
"Benson, Az." is one of the songs that plays in the background.
Saw the movie with one of my brotheres who had just came in from
a 24 hour drive from Texas in Phoenix when the Star Wars line was
too long.  He ended up being warped a bit for the weekend from
that movie.
Have you seen "Spaced Invaders"?  A Halloween movie that is
science fiction in addition.  Disney did it.
