The nylon or sailcloth ideas are good ones, but, if you have already  
invested in the plastic sheets that doesn't help much.  To "glue" plastic  sheeting 
you need the associated solvent.  If you know the type of plastic  search the 
web, if not take a sample to a nearby plastic fabricating shop and  ask what 
solvent to use.  They may be able to sell you a small  amount.  To use it lay 
out two sheets on a CLEAN surface apply a SMALL  amount to both surfaces (I used 
an artist's brush) and use a wallpaper  roller to squeeze the sheets 
together.  Good luck.
