Sadly, for all their hype, many/most glues fail horribly in these
applications. One more unexpected problem I should warn about is
superglue (cyanoacrylate). I recognize that there is temptation
to use this. I noticed that it works great when glued at about room
temp and the glued object is used at that temperature. However,
when I then moved the object to a coldroom, within an hour or so,
the two surfaces appeared to have repelled each other. I think
differences in thermal expansion might be to blaim. It was amazingly
stable at room temperature, so this was really quite unanticipated.
Because your application calls for temperature changes, I would urge
you to take this into consideration. I think there are better ways to
fuse plastics, by heat or plasticing agents, etc. I do not know much
about this, but given my glue experience, I would be looking in that
direction for this problem. One thought that comes to mind is the
method used for iron-on pocket patches. These can be amazingly durable
and temperature/weather resistant, but no idea what their made from or
what sizes or shapes are available these days (its been a while since I
was a poor college student).
