Sorry if is a little off topic, but what is the significance of .707*the measurement of the radius of the circle of the mirror you're making?  Another words (2^.5)/2*the radius.

In electronics this is called the root mean square.

We learned about this in electronics where the alternating current is averaged out to a DC equivalent to .707*peak voltage.  So (2^.5)/2*Vpeak= equivalent DC voltage.

Also the short leg of the 45 45 90 triangle if the hypotenuse is 1 is = roughly .707 more exactly (2^.5)/2

Also if the hypotenuse is (2^.5), then the leg is 1 for a 45 45 90 triangle.
