[ATM] How Big is Too Big?
I currently have an 8" f/6 solid tube Dob with visions of binoviewers and 41 Panoptics dancing in my head. The problem is of course balance. My first thought on reducing balance sensitivity is to enlarge the altitude bearings. In searching the archives I find primarily a few rules of thumb: 1.2 to 2x mirror size.
So, I would like to put the question to the group as a whole: For altitude bearings, how big is to big? What pitfalls await me?
What am I thinking? Well, my only limit in the conceptual stage is the width of available plywood. I am considering altitude bearing sizes between 16" and 22", and borrowing some of Mel Bartel's TriDob ideas.
