I have been on this list for a long time.  I have seen a lot of questionable
advice, but I have never before felt compelled to to post.  This guy Matt
needs to go.  His post is the most irresponsible I have seen on this or any
other list.  We should have zero tolerance for such drivel!

On a more seroius, but less important topic, go ahead and try to make your
own blank.  I it can be done.  I think I would be tempted to convert the
wood to charcoal and burn it in some sort of furnance.  (Beer and charcoal
kind of go together, don't you think?) There are Yahoo groups on glass
blowing where I have seen discussion on pouring molten glass into molds.
You might also want to check out some of the metal casting and foundry
groups for furnace ideas.  My advice is to go for it (and keep drinking
beer.)
