When you do s Schmidt camera, you don't want to have any vignetting of the
light by the primary.  At F1.5, the primary needs to be a fair bit larger in
diameter than the corrector plate (which is the aperture stop in such a
scope) so that the off-axis light isn't vignetted by the edge of the primary
mirror.  What is worse is that the larger the film is, the larger the
primary is to insure that this problem doesn't happen.
