atmj had anl article about flat testing against the curvature of the earth 
(pretty flat...) by using a water surface and a dob. one of the issues with 
this of course is vibration wiggling the water. i think a interesting 
enhancement would be to add a webcam at the eyepiece location and do some 
frame sorting and averaging to work around the vibration issue.

the same issue had an article on roughness testing of curved mirrors which 
can also be done using the same flat tester. herb highstone was the author 
and i think he is usually on astromart fora.
