My Response:
My Old Newport price list indicates a 32 inch diameter by 3.5 inch thick
pyrex blank at $5875.00. The glass you are looking at is about 7.4 inches
larger diameter.... where every inch costs big bucks. (at least to me). The
Newport blank was estimated to weigh 230 pounds. My guess is that a new
blank that diameter would set a person back about $10K +.
I also remenber a large blank of this nature being offered in one of the
telescope magazines a couple of years back asking about $25K.
Sounds like it should be worth a few thousand at least. Assuming of course
that it is useful for something other than holding the truck down. But then
the seller has to find the right person or group of people to get that kind
of price. It certainly puts me out of the bidding.
