[ATM] Re: James' Bino-Scope at Chiefland- My own eyes

      To all on the list,

I was at the Chiefland Star party, and made contact with James
and Ron on wednesday
evening. I inspected the 16" bino's and the fabrication situation. In the
dark it was hard to get
a good view of the structure and dynamics, but the first veiw was short and
unfocused. This was
due to myself not wanting to mess with anything, since this was a prototype
system.
I did see m-34 or 37 or one of those M's in the 30's .. The view had
depth and one eye was
unfocused, I dare not try to mess with the focusers to adapt to my own ,
since I was only taking a
peep and others were waiting.
Later on Friday nite, I made my way over to the "Bino" camp in the
darkness (which was
about an 8 on Chieflands scale) . I was surprised to see no-one near the
dual beast, with just a
weary James and Ron with a grin on his face.
The first words were, " hey man look at Orion", Just adust it to your
eyes and work out the
details and focus. I dove in, focused, moved the oculars to adjust to my
eyes, (moved the Bino
manually)...... Bingo, There was an image that I have never seen before.,,
Yes I have seen the
object many, many times, but I have never seen this object look like this!!
The Dark lane looked as if it had a curved dimention going from dark to
light. The trapezium
looked as if the stars were in and out. (Yes I know that 3-d does not work
at light years but
the human mind fills in the blanks .. and it works)
The light transmission of two 16" mirrors to both eyes is nothing less
than spectacular .
Ron asked me if I could see any "pink" in the view. Although I did not see
pink, the blues and
greens were obvious. James has made an observing "tool" that gives ooh's and
aah's from the
veteran observers and dumfoundedness from rookies.... all I can say is great
job...James you
truly are an inovater in this field , Oh and Ron, good job on the left
mirror, or was it the right...
anyway two mirrors figured by two different opticians came to a great
focus...
This is my two cents , and I was very impressed with what
I viewed and the
mechanics involved, the workmanship involved, the new options involved. I
think you will see alot
more of this design real soon from James. Great job.... Russ Jocoy
