Tom and others that were helping me on the rebuild of Hercules, I thank you
very much. Right when that discussion started, my brother in law died, then
my wife got pregnant, then another quarter started where I teach part time.
So, now that my life is settling somewhat, is there any news on other ATMers
that have built these kind of mirror cells? I'll probably have to get
acquainted with some of the terms and ideas too. Thanks for your patients;
I'll be asking more questions soon.

Many ways to skin the cat on drives for good slew accuracy, but one way
(especially on a budget) is to mold large worm gears.  See:

I also included an assessment of strengths, weaknesses, lessons learned,
what I'd do differently the next time, and some alternative drive
ideas...but it's far from complete or the last word.

However, when the system is working well...I keep the same eyepiece (with an
8 arcminute field of view) in the focuser...and command Mel Bartels'
software to slew 'in the blind' to the next NGC galaxy...and most of the
time it's in the field of view.  Who needs a finder scope or encoders?  ;-)
