Hi Mark,

Won't the earth provide most of that warmth? So if one were trying to keep their scopes warmer, would it make sense to have the bottom of the scope black (shiny on top)? 

Some of my friends have big pieces of carpet, astro-turf, etc. If one were trying to protect the scope from the continuous thermal gradient (caused by its position between the earth and the sky) perhaps a mylar sheet under the carpet would be a good idea?
