If you find Invar unavailable, you may also consider using two metals of
widely differing expansion rates the way that the clock people have done on
the pendulum bobs to control changes in length of the bob under temp
changes. You use a long length of the small expansion metal to do the
length and then come back with the high expansion metal to where you want to
be.
