Ok, we are seriously misguided.  I can accept that.
We still want to make the measurement:  we want to know.

I fail to see the relevance of the Michelson-Morely experiment to the 
measurement of quasar lightspeed.

One, they did not use quasar light in their apparatus, and

Two, even if they used quasar light with half-normal lightspeed, they had a 
differential interferometer that wouldn't have detected anything awry, in 
the absence of "aether drift."


I liked your analogy of Snell's Law and the swimmer and the lifeguard.
