ATM coating disagreement, and other threads: comment from list owner

As list owner, may I politely suggest that the parties consider taking
this to private e-mail, if they wish to continue their discussion.

I think that this can best be resolved privately instead of in front of
everyone on the list. Both sides have stated their cases in detail to
the list, and I don't see that much more constructive can be said to the
list membership. I hope this can be resolved to both party's
satisfaction.

May I also very gently recommend that we let the resistor thread die. I
think everyone has had their say. Same for the Sky and Telescope thread.

My policy is to let people work things out themselves. One of triggers
that will cause a comment from me is when we start getting a lot of
people leaving the list. This has been happening the last 3-4 days.
>From my point of view, the atm list is the main place to discuss amateur
telescope making (in English) on the 'net, and it's very important to me
that we not do things that cause lots of people to turn away from our
list. Many of us have been around since the beginning, but a lot of
people have joined recently, and it's important to me that we make a
solid impression to the new members.

Thanks for listening. I have learned a lot from the many posts over the
past couple of years and had a great time discussing telescope making
with all of you. Also I am really pleased at the number of people we
have been able to help and questions we have been able to answer. Using
this list to facilitate organizing amateur activities at major star
parties has been an unexpected bonus.
