OK, but maybe this should be amended to "Unremovable", 'and the owner
of said optic will be contacted as to his wishes before any further
work is performed.' I can imagine that in the '40's, when this policy
was instituted, that quick effective communications may not have been
the best or at the very least quite costly in relative terms to the
service being performed. In the present, if I were to send you a
mirror which had some similar defect, I would at the very least expect
a collect phone call to notify me of the condition and discuss
potential options before performing any further actions.
On a positive note, I know of a few of your clients mirrors with
'Beral' coatings and they could not be more pleased.
