Recommend you get hold of a copy of TM#32 which should be still available
from Kalmbach (as of last week anyway). Page 36 details building a light
wooden tripod. Take a look at Issue #34 and Tom Clark's "A Dobsonian Mount
for Giant Binoculars." I intend to build something similar to Tom's for my
own 11X80s and use a photo-tripod as he suggests. I'm assuming you have
access to a full Wood Hobby Shop at the base. If so, their basic equipment
is more than adequate for either of these projects.
