Can anyone suggest some good books/resources > or ideas on the type of equipment I might need? If you have usenet access, there is a group called rec.crafts.metalworking whose members are as helpful as those in the ATM group. You can also access it, and other newsgroups, through the WWW at http://www.dejanews.com/ r.c.m maintains a _huge_ FAQ at http://w3.uwyo.edu/~metal/ Also, Lindsay Publications (815-935-5353) has a free catalog filled with dozens of books on machining, casting, etc. Lindsay is the metalworking equivalent of Willmann Bell. IMHO, one of the most useful tools is a good drill press. A lathe is a great thing to have too, but getting the lathe is only a start. I bought an old South Bend machine, then discovered I also needed a milling attachment, 4 jaw chuck, micrometers, calipers, face plate, etc., etc. My daughter says I should have just gone to a machine shop when I wanted something done.
