Re: ATM "The New S&T"
Some thoughts about the "New S&T":
Perhaps it would be appropriate for them to change their publication name
also. Maybe just "SKY" or "Sky & Telescope Advertising" or just "Sky &
Advertising". Maybe it could evolve into something like "Computer
Shopper"!! I'd still buy it...but probably only once a year for the ads.
(Please don't get me wrong...I enjoy the ads and find them useful and
interesting but to the exclusion of worthwhile articles???...well,
obviously, the value to me declines as less topics of interest to me are
included.
Obviously, evolution is not limited to just the biological world. Magazines
evolve as well and this may be just another reason for the real TN's among
us to throw more support to Bill Cook and the great ATM Journal he edits and
publishes. Many on this list are contributors as well as associate editors.
Check it out at: http://www.halcyon.com/rupe/atmj/ At the risk of
sounding like a heretic on this list, I would say that, frankly, there are
many other topics in Sky & Tel that I enjoy and I would still continue my
subscription even if Telescope Making is dropped as a topic. (A recent
example: I really enjoyed and found useful the articles in the March issue
by Edwin Aguirre and Johnny Horne on photography techniques and film
selection for comet photography.)
You'll have to admit that with the Telescope Making department being reduced
to usually two pages for quite some time, their support of telescope making
as a topic has been token at best. It would seem reasonable that, if
indeed, that token contribution on their part has resulted in hundreds or
thousands of ATM'ers continuing their subscriptions, then they would
certainly want to continue to include Telescope Making as a department.
Maybe they thought they could do away with it since they had no complaints
about how little coverage they have been providing!
I'll get off my soap box!
