As a rule I recommend tools that are 50% to 100% the size of the primary
for grinding.  So, make sure that the pipe flange is 4" across for a 8"
mirror.  If I remember, this means about a pipe flange for 2" pipe. 
Also, if you can get the heavy duty floor flanges, they have more metal
to work with.
