Re: ATM pitch in microwave ovens
I have had good luck in softening and melting pitch in the microwave.
Pyrex measuring cups were used - thereafter they become pitch melting
pots . A warning about melting pitch in the closed space of a microwave:
the microwave ovens that I've seen do not appear to be made for heating
flammable products. The switches and relay contacts are not housed in an
explosion proof housing as would be found in an industrial environment
such as a refinery. The exposed electrical contacts could be a source
of ignition for volatile flammable gasses as would be produced by
overheating pitch.
