Re: ATM Pitch lab, microfacetts, optic programs

Hello Stefan

Regarding your questions. I work at the Chabot Observatory mirror making workshop most
Fridays from 7:00 to 10:00pm and generally the whole lab does have contac with the lap,
this is a contamination problem :-)

OK seriously, (I assume you ment whole lap), the answer is yes. This is accomplished by
pressing, both hot and cold. A hot press is accomplished by placing the lap in hot
water, as hot as your hands can stand, and then some for 15 to 20 minutes then pull it
out, don't forget to scream, put the mirror on top and press. If you are working with a
mirror less than 8" in dia. you might want to put a weight on top but be careful as you
can press out all the channels easily. For cold pressing you don't heat the lap and you
do need to use a weight. Some times I sit on it.

Yes it is useful to microfacit. I use a plastic crochet form from the hobby store.

I use to use a student demo version of IRT. Now I am using OVB-32 also known as VOB
I'll send you the URL later, for now do a search on the wed for OVB.

Hello,

I have just started polishing my mirror. Is it necessary that the hole lab has
contact to the mirror ? I ask this because some facetts 3 or 4 have no contact
to the mirror. These facetts are in the middle between the center and the edge
and the facetts at the edge have sometimes not enough contact. My lab has
facetts each about 1.5 cm wide and long.

Is it useful to have microfacetts on the lab ?

Where can I get a raytrace program for optics, a program to calculate errors
measured with the Foucaulttest ?
Are there any other programs for ATM ?

Regards,

Stefan Beck
