ATM Aligning Secondary stalk

" How many degrees should the stalk be bent.
Also, where should the bend be. "

The bend should be 45 degrees, in order to reflect the light by 90 degrees.

If you have a single stalk, I'd suggest putting the bend at the mirror end.
This would keep the stalk as short (and as rigid) as possible.

Just be careful not to let the metal fracture when putting a sharp bend in it.
Maybe anneal (soften) it first, by heating it in a gas flame until dull red,
then let it cool. That should make it more workable.
