ATM make my first telescope

Hi !
I'm going to make my first scope.  My plan is a 6 or 8 inch newtonian  on a
german equatorial.  I would buy the Celestron Great Polaris mount and make
the optical myself.  How do you think?  Should I do that or just to buy a
commercial one?

 I have difficulty in finding a pipe of 6 or more inch in diameter.  So how
do you guys make your own tube?  Can you suggest some good vendors for
mirror blanks, tools and accessories?
