Making your 10" into f/42 sphere and improving the 14" flat gives you a VERY interesting opportunity to make a dream planetary 'scope - unobstructed, with a fixed eyepiece position INSIDE THE HOUSE !
It works like this
| |
___| | \|
== ||
---| | \ \ ||
| | \ \ /|
eyepiece | \ \ 10" f/42
end | | \ \ stationary
| | \ \ spherical mirror
| | 14" coelostat flat (driven at 1/2 sider. rate)
House wall
(facing south)
North <========== =========> South
It should be checked, but I think that 10" can work tilted at f/42. Otherwise, make it a bit longer !
No more mosquitoes, cold fingers, colf feet, freezing eyepieces, uncomfortable neck breaking positions at the scope ... And best of all - cup of coffee won't instantly fog your eyepiece !
What do you think ?
