Forget glass, get exotic. Borrow a mirror, copy it in ceramic (make a
convex negative), then make as many copies as you want and have a local
pottery shop fire them for you. Paint the surface with a few coats of a
modern resin based varnish and, as they say, go figure. Dunno about the
physics and chemistry of polishing varnish, but it would be fun to try.
There was an S&T article long ago by a guy who tried this using ordinary
glaze for a surface but it wasn't fine-textured enough.
