Forget glass, get exotic. Borrow a mirror, copy it in ceramic (make a convex negative), then make as many copies as you want and have a local pottery shop fire them for you. Paint the surface with a few coats of a modern resin based varnish and, as they say, go figure. Dunno about the physics and chemistry of polishing varnish, but it would be fun to try. There was an S&T article long ago by a guy who tried this using ordinary glaze for a surface but it wasn't fine-textured enough.
