The math can be had in Malacara's Optical Shop Testing. Long ago, I wrote a program which made a stab at computing these patterns. Maybe after RTMC I will dust it off and see what state it is in. In Suiter's book, he makes a brief critique of Ronchi tests, saying a good test is to print patterns for the properly corrected mirror, and one 1/4 wave under or over corrected, and see if you can tell the difference. I thought I might do that too.
