Like all steels, there are a number of different steels that
spring when properly treated.  Back in the old days, auto springs
were a great source of that kind of steel for the backyard
metalworker hobbiest as you could go down to the junkyard and get
a spring for almost nothing, do some blacksmithing on it and make
any kind of spring you really wanted to have for the job at hand.
You can weep and moan all you want to because you don't have
exactly what you want but there's a lot out there that you can do
with what you can get for very cheap.
