Usually the tool is thicker than the pitch and in all
cases gives you something to touch without touching
the pitch.  If the pitch has wrapped around and is on
the side of the tool you can just chip it off.

Don't understand what you mean by the pitch tool
pulled away along the edge when making. Pulled away
from what? Send me a pic if you want.
