If they're really sharp, you can carefully stone them and then
thoroughly clean the tool. Sharp edged tiles can easily have flakes
break off of them, and this of course can cause scratching.
However, I don't typically get scratches from these until I pass 5
micron. Typically I stop at 5u when using tile tools. So, you should
be able to proceed to 5u without any sanding.

A tile tool needs to be wet to work properly. If you start fine
grinding with a dry tile tool it will suck up all of the water you put
on like a sponge, and the tool and mirror can stick together.
A wise strategy is to soak the tile tool in water for a few minutes
before use.
