Re: [ATM] what is the material
Hi Horace,
I'm going to assume that by "glass" you mean window glass (AKA soda-lime
glass).
The main points are that borosilicate glasses (there are literally hundreds)
have (in general) a much lower co-efficient of thermal expansion than soda
lime glass, they are also harder than soda-lime glass, and some say because
of this they take a better polish (this is purely anecdotal, my experience
is the polish is about the same, but Pyrex type glasses can take a bit
longer to polish out, but this is just because they are a harder type of
glass).
Borosilicate glasses are also more chemically resistant than soda-lime
glass; they also have a much higher working temp, and consequently a higher
annealing range, but this just technical trivia to most ATMs.
Cheers, Thomas.
