Definitely. I think a lot of people have sketched
versions of the mount in their design notebooks, but
Milsom is the first that I know of to really pull it
off in a developed application. I also respect the
"totality of concept" of his design--the design of
each component works with all the others to make a
complete pulled-together package, both functionally
and aesthetically. That's something I struggle to
emulate in my telescopes. And that swing-out eyepiece
shelf is COOL.
In the article he promises a 22" version. I would be
delighted to know how that is working out.
While we are on the topic of priority, I should
acknowledge right away that Russell Porter and the
Springfield Telescope Makers experimented extensively
with single-pole designs in the 1920s, culminating in
the garden telescope. More recently, a number of
others have made practical scopes using one
cantilevered pole, and many have published designs
built with 2, 3, and 4 poles, including Gary.
