Re: [ATM] Ghosts in the Coulter

some of the red-tube coulters had collimation bolts that protruded thru
the mirror cell and actually touched the back of the mirror. a better
cell might improve your image...an easy way to check this is to mount the
mirror against bubble wrap (and run the collimation bolts back into the
mirror cell). another problemo with the red-tubes was the hose clamp
connection...if the clamp was too tight or the screw-apparatus was on the
bottom of the mirror distortions were introduced.

You're most likely correct Steve. To my eye the images in the sketch
seemed
to make a triangular pattern as if the mirror were pinched by 3 clips or
rigidly glued to a solid support at three places. That's what made me
think
of it.

It seems unlikely to me that a pinched primary or secondary would
cause this problem. Both the primary and secondary on a Coulter are
sufficiently thick that the deformation imparted by pinching would be
relatively smooth deformations. That doesn't agree very well with
multiple, relatively sharp, ghosts.
