You're most likely correct Steve.  To my eye the images in the sketch seemed
to make a triangular pattern as if the mirror were pinched by 3 clips or
rigidly glued to a solid support at three places.  That's what made me think
of it.

It seems unlikely to me that a pinched primary or secondary would
cause this problem.  Both the primary and secondary on a Coulter are
sufficiently thick that the deformation imparted by pinching would be
relatively smooth deformations.  That doesn't agree very well with
multiple, relatively sharp, ghosts.
