Re: [ATM] ATM and young people

Self made home research is the key to inventions and discovery at this saturation era were we need to overcome fundamental constraints.
I feel if someone researching in a big lab of some big institute ,he may have advantage of good equipments but he is still bounded by the system or the institute but self made home research you are the system and a free mind to explore your way.also the most difficult solution are simple.
may be someone having least facilities gets a way to control mercurys shape as to have a liquid mirror of mercury tilting in any direction without any deformation in shape of parabolid he may be the one to discover relation between electomagentic waves and gravity ,

ATM is a great hobby, the people are generous and helpful and the subject
deep and interesting, but it is also a way to introduce young people into
the process of science and engineering. (Though potato batteries are pretty
cool!)

*** Agreed. While there might not be a flood in of young people there are
plenty. At the local atm meetings there are usually 2 of us. There have been
a number of stories of people's sons, daughters making mirrors (at least 5
this year that I can recall). For atm in general someone posted a very
complete list with a few dozen ATM clubs/organizations around the country.

I think everyone is too pessimistic. More people are coming in and the hobby
is continuing, if for different reasons.
