  ATM is a great hobby, the people are generous and helpful and the subject
deep and interesting, but it is also a way to introduce young people into
the process of science and engineering.  (Though potato batteries are pretty
cool!)

*** Agreed. While there might not be a flood in of young people there are
plenty. At the local atm meetings there are usually 2 of us. There have been
a number of stories of people's sons, daughters making mirrors (at least 5
this year that I can recall). For atm in general someone posted a very
complete list with a few dozen ATM clubs/organizations around the country.

I think everyone is too pessimistic. More people are coming in and the hobby
is continuing, if for different reasons.
