Re: [ATM] Is ATMing really disappearing?

Well actually... I have almost every Sky and Telescope issue from 1968 to
present.

No doubt, the 60's 70's and 80's had much more.

They sure had something going back then. Richard Buchroeder would have
optical designs running in "to be continued" series. Well, at least it
seemed that way.

Loosing Robert Cox hurt the Sky and Tel effort. Roger Sinnot did well for a
while. I don't even know who, if anyone is running their ATM stuff now.

I was speaking in relative terms to several years before the last few. A few
years ago I was thinking of dropping my subscription because of the lack of
ATM stuff. Then before my subscription ran out they had some ATM stuff. They
had been skimming the lower limit of keeping my interest. I'm a firm
believer in the principle of not paying someone to not give you what you
want.

In fact I think my subscription is up for renewal. I will pull out the last
few years and see exactly how much I think the subscription is worth.

Their market is amateur astronomy and telescope consumers. Who can blame
them. I wonder how many telescopes are sold each month compared to how many
mirror blanks. That says something about where the money is.

I am one of the ATM's who's hobby is ATM. I'm not ashamed to say that my
interest in ATM ranks well above my interest in astronomy. Not that I'm not
interested in astronomy, but it ranks lower. I could just as well get my
astronomy news off the web, just like I get my ATM news.

Jerry, You obviously weren't around in the hay days of the 60's and 70's.
Coverage back then was excellent. They routinely printed articles from ATM'
s who were on the cutting edge of design, processes, and production of
superior optics.
