It's a matter of economics. If you are charged for either the minute or 
byte, email is much more cost effective than browsing. Also, people 
approach a forum differently than a list, and behave differently, IMHO.

Having run lists, forums, and wikis for years, I can say I enjoy this 
list more than any other online community I've been involved with.
