[ATM] telescopes by Gerry Logan
Gerry Logan is a telescope maker in the LA area who has displayed at the
Riverside Telescope Maker's Conference for about 3 decades. He is a retired
professional optical fabricator, and uses unusual optical systems and machined
mounts. He does not design the optics; but often uses Walt Goldys for design
work; and the Schupmann designs are from Jim Daly's books. I borrowed his
collection of photos & slides showing his telescopes, scanned them, did some
basic optimization, and posted them on line, at:
http://siderealtechnology.com/atm/Logan,Gerry/
--This is not a html web page, just a directory of files.
--There are 18 telescopes in the directory; plus mounts, and images of some
instructional pages. 175 images, total 36 megabytes.
--The images belong to Gerry, and his permission is needed to republish them.
--Gerry said that he's willing to talk to ATMs interested in his work. Email me
for his phone number. He does not use a computer or email.
--There are several telescopes, his first, that are not shown. Photos of these
were loaned out and have not yet been returned. If someone on the list can
contact Rick Shaffer (spelling?), who volunteered at RTMC for years, and now
probably lives in Arizona.... please ask him to mail the photos to Gerry.
--Gerry says that the Schupmann requires the most precision in fabrication, with
tight tolerances, and very little room for errors; but he feels it provides the
best correction among the various designs and is his 'favorite'.
--Thanks very much to Dan Gray & Sidereal Technology (who make servo drives for
amateur telescopes), for providing web space for these photos.
Gerry is currently working on 5 telescopes:
-10 inch f12 Schmidt Cassegrain, Walt Goldys design, with Ross doublet
correcting lens.
-8 inch f5.5. Newtonian Maksutov
-10 inch f15 Rumak, f4 primary with triplet corrector / barlow
-8 inch f10 Stevick Paul
-10 inch f6 Newtonian on a split ring mount
