I had the problem with galvanic corrosion of aluminum with two Beemers
(aluminum head, cast iron block, copper radiator). In one case the aluminum
in the water jacket around the exhaust valves had corroded enough that water
was actually quenching the exhaust valves. Fortunately, the exhaust valves
were sodium filled and did not fail, but did have to replace the aluminum
head castings :-(
Anodizing the aluminum and passivation with chromate can help prevent
corrosion. Passivation of Stainless steel bolts can also help.
