I have used some pressure transducers like this.  I think they wouldn't
work.  They are much too thick to just put between the lap and mirror
and pretend the thickness didn't matter.  So then, you would be wanting
to wait till the lap flowed around the sensor to reestablish contact.
You couldn't move the lap then, not unless you were willing to tolerate
 the likelyhood of scratches.

Well, maybe I am being too pessimistic, perhaps if you positioned
everything and then let it stand until the pitch flowed to equilibrium,
the effective pressure would be the value that the pressure settled down to.
